MURDER
OF SADHU SINGH TAKHTUPURA
SHAME, GUILT & CONFESSION
Sadhu Singh Takhtupura, Organizing
Secretary of the BKU (Ugrahan), who after his retirement as a Teacher was
engrossed in organizing the farmers in Majha area, leaving the comforts of his
house, was brutally murdered on 16.02.2010. On that day he was holding whirl-wind
meetings in various villages, including Lopoke, to organize the people for a
Dharna, to be held at Ajnala against Baba Rachhpal Singh SHO, who had killed a
poor farmer by torturing him in the police station and then thrown his dead
body in the village square, challenging the people. Baba Rachhpal Singh a brute
police officer is a very close relative of Veer Singh Lopoke Ex-MLA (SAD
Badal). Although Veer Singh Lopoke’s name figured in the FIR as main
conspirator, but the police, at the instance of Akali rulers, declared him
innocent through a sham inquiry. There were at least four eye-witnesses who
testified to have seen the assailants, coming out fully armed from Veer Singh
Lopoke’s house and being exhorted by him to attack & kill Sadhu Singh
Takhtupura and his companions.
At that time all these persons, namely
Veer Singh Lopoke, Baba Rachhpal Singh, Sarabjit Singh Lodhi Gujjar, Kulwinder
Singh Saurian, Randhir Singh Rana and Dr. Sharanjit Singh, escaped from being
hauled up, as Badal Govt fully protected them. Even the police at the behest of
its political masters, converted the case from murder to culpable homicide not
amounting to murder.
TRUTH
CANNOT BE SUPPRESSED:
But the truth has come out at last. Sandip
Singh, one of the accused being tried in this case has now filed an application
in the trial court to seek pardon and turn approver. He has disclosed in his
application dated 14.01.2013, that he “has
been a close confidant of and very near to Veer Singh Lopoke Ex-MLA ……. and
Baba Rachhpal Singh, who have been accused of complicity in this case by the
complainant in the FIR.”

& SHELL-SHOCKED
Speaking about Sadhu Singh Takhtupura, the
accused Sandip Singh says, “...
deceased Sadhu Singh Takhtupura, was a very noble soul, tirelessly struggling
for the cause of poor farmers to save them from land grabbers in the area.
There has been wide-spread sympathy for him and condemnation of his murder.
Being a participant in the murder of Sadhu Singh Takhtupura, the condemnations
and rebukes by a large number of people has deeply pricked my consciousness. I
have been so shell-shocked, that I spent a large number of sleepless nights,
introspecting about my role and responsibilities in this case. Slowly, I have
come to the conclusion that, remaining silent at the present juncture will
result in miscarriage of justice by letting some of the accused off the hook,
who had played vital role in conspiring, planning and executing the murder of
Sadhu Singh Takhtupura, as he posed a great threat to their evil designs of
grabbing the poor farmers’ lands. This will put a permanent scar on my soul,
and I will remain burdened with the sense of guilt throughout my remaining
life”.
CONFESSION:
He further says in his application that, “having come to the above said conclusion,
he has decided to make a full and true discloser of the whole of the
circumstances within his knowledge relating to the murder of Sh. Sadhu Singh
Takhtupura and also relating to other persons concerned as conspirator,
principal or abettor, in the commission thereof and thereby cleanse his soul of
the unbearable sin of the murder of such a noble soul like Sadhu Singh
Takhtupura”.
Disclosing the sequence of bloody event,
he has said, that he, “ used to be present on different occasions
since January 2010, when Veer Singh Lopoke, Baba Rachhpal Singh, Sarabjit Singh
Lodhi Gujjar, Kulwinder Singh Saurian, Randhir Singh Rana, Dr. Sharanjit Singh
etc hatched the conspiracy to murder Sadhu Singh Takhtupura, and made plans to
execute it. He was also present on 16.02.2010 in the house of Veer Singh Lopoke
at village Lopoke, when he, Rachhpal Singh Baba, Kulwinder Singh Saurian ,
Sarabjit Singh Lodhi Gujjar, Randhir Singh Rana etc exhorted him and other
accused, who were got assembled there by the above said persons after coming to
know about Sadhu Singh Takhtupura mobilizing the people for the Dharna to be
held at Ajnala on 17.02.2012, demanding arrest of Baba Rachhpal Singh, who is a
close relative of Veer Singh Lopoke, to
follow Sadhu Singh Takhtupura and murder him. Acting upon this plan, Sadhu
Singh Takhtupura was murdered on the same day. He was also present at the time when Randhir
Singh Rana, Dr. Sharanjit Singh, Tejinder Singh Kala @ Jatinder Singh &
others, attacked Sadhu Singh Takhtupura and his companions near Dhussi Band village Ghoga on 16.02.2012,
murdered Sadhu Singh Takhtupura and caused injuries to his companions.”
He has therefore expressed his readiness
to give evidence during the trial and prayed for being tendered pardon and
allowed to turn approver and to make a full and true discloser of the whole of
the circumstances within his knowledge relating to the murder of Sh. Sadhu
Singh Takhtupura and also relating to other persons concerned as conspirator,
principal or abettor, in the commission thereof.
The court has fixed 21st
January for hearing arguments on this application & taking a decision on
it.
